Science and linguistics in Marburg und Berlin; Lecturer in media studies at the Technical University of Berlin (1980-89); Professor of audiovisual studies at the University of Salzburg (1990-93); Chair of communications and media studies at the Academy of Media Arts, Cologne (1993); Founding director of the Academy of Media Arts, Cologne (1994-2000); Researches and publishes with emphasis on integrated history, theory and
praxis of audiovision/archaeology of the media; Member of the European Film Academy, the Academy of Arts Berlin, and the Magic Lantern Society of Great
Britain.
