Biography: Born in New York City in 1953, Arnold Dreyblatt studied composition and comparative music at the Wesleyan University, and media studies at the State University of Buffalo/USA. Dreyblatt’s works take a variety of forms; contemporary opera and interactive performance as well as books and digital media. His “Memory Project” combines electronic media with history writing and art. Arnold Dreyblatt has lived in Berlin since 1984 and is a guest professor at the College of Fine Arts in Saarbrücken.
Performances and installations since 1975: most recently in the Jewish Museum New York (2001); Hamburger Bahnhof/Nationalgalerie/ Jahrhundertausstellung Berlin (1999-2000); in the gallery Anselm Dreher, Berlin (2000); Felix Meritis Foundation Amsterdam (1998), Velerzni Palac/National Gallery Prague (1996), at the Istanbul Festival, in the Arken Museum of Modern Art / Cultural Capital Copenhagen (1996), in the Jewish Museum Vienna (1996), and in the Kampnagel Factory Hamburg (1995).
Fellowships and prizes (selection): Promotional Prize for Fine Art, Akademie der Künste Berlin (2000); Foundation for Contemporary Performance Art, New York City (1998); Kulturfonds e.V., Berlin (1996); Bild-Kunst e.V., Bonn (1995); Kunstfonds e.V., Bonn (1994); Philip Morris Art Prize, Munich (1992).
Numerous workshops and lectures: including at the Bauhaus Academy Weimar (2001); College of Fine Art in Munich (2000); Yale University and University of Utrecht (1999), lecturing contract at the College of Fine Art in Berlin-Weißensee (1998/99), University of Utrecht (1998) and at the University of Lüneburg in the department of cultural information science (1995/96/ 2000).
